Computer updates

Overview

Microsoft, Apple, and other software vendors regularly generate updates for their software.  Sometimes these affect security, sometimes they fix bugs (defects) and sometimes they add functionality to your computer.

Eligibility

Updates come from the software vendor so they are usually free.  New version or enhancements to functionality sometimes cost, but that is from the software vendor.

Getting Started

If your computer is owned by Harding, these updates will be automatically installed on your computer.  You may be asked to restart your computer for them to take effect.  If so, please use the restart option instead of shutting down and then restarting.  Sometimes that is required for everything to be installed correctly.

For personally owned computers:

Windows: Click the window icon (start button) and type Update.  This will allow you to check for updates to Windows.  It will also give you an option to periodically check for updates automatically.  This may already be in effect, but is recommended if it isn't.

Macintosh:  Click the Apple menu at the top-left corner, choose App Store, click the Updates button at the top of the App store in order check for available updates to install.

Others (iPhone, Android, etc.): These devices will automatically check for updates   Sometimes they will give you the option to apply any updates, other times it will be done automatically.

If you are a currently enrolled student at Harding University and need assistance with OS updates, please click "Request Service".
