Substitutions and exemptions from the textual Bible requirement

Overview

Various courses and situations allow for an undergraduate student to not take the normally required Bible class in a term.  These rules are monitored by the Banner job SZRNOBI which produces a list of students who should be in a Bible class but are not.

The courses are:

First 4 characters of subject description (e.g. Bible/History) are BIBL
OR (subject = ART AND course number is one of (375,3750))
OR (subject = BHIS AND course number is one of (140, 340, 1040, 3040))
OR (subject = BUS AND course number is one of (435, 4350))
OR (subject = COMM AND course number is one of (401, 455, 4550))
OR (subject = ESL AND course number is one of (0841, 0842, 0843, 0844))
OR (subject = FR AND course number is 3272
OR (subject = HIST AND course number is one of (340, 3040))
OR (subject = HNRS AND course number is one of (202, 342, 459, 2020, 3020, 4590))
OR (subject = HUM AND course number is one of (273, 2730))
OR (subject = NURS AND course number is one of (413, 4130))
OR (subject = PHS AND course number is one of (410, 4100))

The student is exempt if

  • They have been a graduate student at Harding in the past (have had a student level code other than UG)
  • They have been awarded a degree from Harding or another college that is not an Associate's
  • They are enrolled in taking SWK 452 or 4520 in the term
  • They are student teaching (test score of TCST)
  • They are in a DC-BA program (defunct)
  • They have been exempted this term (test score NOBI for the term) or permanently (test score NOBP) 
  • Taking 8 or fewer hours
  • They have completed and passed one or more of the above courses in 8 terms (a semester HUG or HIZ will count for an additional semester) AND they have completed 8 or more hours of textual Bible courses (BNEW or BOLD)
