Scam emails are a significant security threat for universities. Attackers are constantly emailing Harding employees, attempting to fool them into doing something they shouldn’t. Some emails are obvious, but many are not. Some require technical knowledge to analyze.
You don’t need to figure it out on your own! Forward suspicious emails to itsecurity@harding.edu, and we can determine if an email is legitimate or not.
What if the email is urgent or embarrassing, or you have already fallen for something? Scammers play on emotions to bypass your analytical thinking. We are understanding, discreet, and prioritize rapid response to questions.
What if the email is from your boss, or the boss of their boss? Scammers frequently impersonate Harding employees and exploit the org chart. No one should get in trouble for checking if an email is legitimate.
We get asked about as many legitimate emails as scams. Don’t worry about an email hitting some particular level of fishiness before asking us–if you have any concerns, we’re happy to help!
