Overview
With the introduction of Technolution's Slate CRM package, we are changing the way we manage test score input files and hence, to some degree, the scores themselves..
All test score files EXCEPT ACT, SAT, and CLT (GRE, PRAXIS, etc.)
The files for all of the scores except ACT, SAT, and CLT will continue to be processed as they have, that being that the score files will be imported into Banner, hence all processing will remain as it has been.
AP and other such scores are in this category as well.
Although the plan to create records in Banner for prospects is to not do it until they either are admitted or have an ISIR sent (the result of a FAFSA submission), if a score file for a test in this category (not one of ACT, SAT, CLT) is received, a person record will be created if it does not already exist.
The current practice is to not enter AP scores until the student has attended Bison Bound and has registered because the Registrar's Office doesn't want the charge for the credit to appear until they have registered.
ACT, SAT, and CLT score files
There are three main uses for these scores:
- Required for undergraduate admission
- Calculation of Harding academic scholarships
- Pre-requisites for certain courses and guides for academic advising.
Because the first use of these scores is in the undergraduate admissions process, we are going to import the files directly into Slate. Then when the person is admitted, the scores will be moved into Banner and will appear as that have in SOATEST (the SORTEST table). All of the score data, including subscores and other such, will be imported to Banner as part of the decision entry and then anytime new scores are received.
There are also cases where an ACT score comes in later so if the person has already been admitted, the new scores will be moved to Banner as well.
During and after the admissions process, various departments communicate with prospects, applicants, and admitted students based on these scores. That correspondence can either be done in Slate or via an exported files. Known examples are:
- The Honors College will communicate with those with high scores for Honors Symposium, etc.
- Some departments will communicate with prospective majors. This can be done after the planned major is entered while the application is being entered.
When these scores are moved to Banner, the codes identifying them in Banner will remain the same. When instances such as the recent SAT scale adjustment, new codes will be generated as has been done and will be used appropriately.
One other difference is that the ancillary fields from theses tests will not be moved to Banner, only the score and subscore fields.
Additional Information
The College of Education currently uses the following scores for advising and class choices:
- ACT 05 - Composite
- ACT 03 - Reading
- ACT 02 - Math
- ACT A32 - Writing
- S11 - Reading (SAT)
- S12 - Math (SAT)
- S27 - Essay - Writing Dimension (SAT)
The College of Education also uses MAT and GRE test scores in their graduate programs. As Slate moves into the graduate courses, the process of when prospects are added to Banner will need to be re-evaluated.
