Changing the location of a department/office on the website

Overview

As departments or Offices change or the organization of them changes we some times need to adjust locations of them on the www.Harding.edu website. Our website CMS (Content Management System) helps in doing this but there are issues to watch out for so that everything gets to where it needs to be and pieces are not left to cause confusion down the road.
  1. Use the Navigation part of the website CMS to move a site from one location in the file structure to another. Make sure you have approval from Communications & Marketing to do this or have them help you.
  2. This is a good time to clean up any old assets or unused photos etc.
  3. Once you have completed moving a site and assets be sure and publish them out. This will happen with a nightly process so if there are a lot and you can wait. If not you can publish out individual pages or assets as needed.
  4. Check links within the site that moved for any links that may still be pointing to the old location.
  5. Also use the Search on the Harding website to look for any other pages that might have linked to the old content location via a hard coded link. These will need to be updated to dynamic or changed to the new address.
  6. And finally, if any redirect is being used, shorter forms of the address, please inform ADS of that as well so they can be updated.
Example: www.harding.edu/Art goes to a much longer address for convenience. If that longer address changes so must the redirect.
