Common Voice Mail Commands

Overview

Harding uses Cisco Unity Connection 11.5.1 for voice mail.  This article contains some helpful tools and commands for using Unity Connection voice mail on the Harding University campus.

Voice Mail Basics

  • Your voice mailbox number is your extension number, unless you are told otherwise.
  • If you forget your pin number to log into your mailbox, you will need to enter a Service Request or call HTS at (501)279-4100.  Your pin will be reset to 135790.
  • Voice prompts are used throughout voice mail.  If you do not know what to do, just wait for a voice prompt.  Once you are familiar with the system, you can dial through these voice prompts -- you do not have to listen to them.

How Do I Log Into Voice Mail?

  • If you are at your own phone, just press the "message" button.  It will recognize your extension number and ask for your pin.  Enter your pin number, followed by the # sign.
  • If you are anywhere other than your own phone, dial the voice mail number -- (501)279-4800.  You will then hear the message "Hello. Cisco Unity Connection Messaging System.  From a touch-tone telephone, you may dial an extension at any time.  For a directory of extensions, press 4."
    • Press the star button *.  You will then hear "enter your ID followed by #".  Enter your mailbox #, which should be your extension number (unless you were given a different number).
    • You will then hear "enter your pin, followed by #".  Enter your pin #.
    • You will then be logged into your voice mailbox.

How to Set Up Your Mailbox

If you get a new extension/voice mailbox or move to a different extension/voice mailbox, you will need to set up your mailbox.  All of these commands must be done after logging into your voice mailbox:

  • Record your name -- press 4, then 3, then 2
  • Record your greeting -- press 4, then 1, then choose the greeting you would like to change
    • Standard
    • Closed
    • Alternate -- this is good to record if you are going to be out of the office for a few days or longer -- you can set an "end date" so you don't have to remember to turn off your alternate greeting
    • Busy
    • Internal
  • Change your password -- your new password must be at least 4 digits; cannot use your extension number; cannot repeat the same 4 numbers; cannot use common strings such as "12345".
