How to Implement the 2nd Factor

Overview

Multi-Factor Authentication (MFA), sometimes known as 2 Factor Authentication (2FA) requires you to enter a password and then use a device you have to complete the authentication.

There are several ways you can choose to implement the 2nd factor.

  1. We recommend the Microsoft Authenticator app installed on your phone or other smart device.
  2. It is possible to use other authenticator apps, e.g. Google Authenticator, but we do not provide assistance for them.
  3. A Security Key - Purchase a USB device (Yubikey) to plug into your device.  If you choose this option, please see this article.

We recommend option 1 above, to use the Microsoft Authenticator app on your phone or table.  Here are instructions to install it for any applications you use your Harding username and password to access.

If you choose option 3, this article has specifications and instructions for choosing and installing a Yubikey.  If you choose options 2 or 3, see these instructions from Microsoft on installing or creating the Service Key.
